tAS Quietus
Vibrant horn and hook-laden jangle guitar counterpoint the smooth, melancholic vocals and cerebral lyrics of The Autumn Stones.

Convened in 2010, the Canadian dreampop/post-punk band is comprised of Ciaran Megahey (vocals, guitar), Marcus Tamm (bass), Ray Cara (drums), Dan Dervaitis (guitar, backing vocals) and Gary Butler (saxophones, guitar, keyboards).

Writing alone, Ciaran crafts lyrics exploring inner struggle, philosophy and relationships, then lays down rough guitar-with-drum machine demos. In a warehouse rehearsal studio, the band shapes the songs before bringing them to live audiences in venerable Toronto institutions including The Horseshoe Tavern, The Garrison and Adelaide Hall.

Debut album Companions of the Flame was released in 2011.

In 2013, the group participated in NOW magazine’s 50/50 video series, providing a sultry arrangement of Feist’s “One Evening.”

2014 saw the release of three singles: “End Of Faith,”“In with the Out Crowd” and “Endless War,” all engineered, mixed and co-produced by Dean Marino (Papermaps) and mastered by Noah Mintz (The National, Broken Social Scene).

Featuring a new version of “End Of Faith,” The Autumn Stones’s sophomore album Escapists (once again, mixed/mastered by Marino/Mintz) came out in 2015. Shared bills in the wake of the release included The Cribs, The DMA’s and Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy.

On the cusp of recording the follow-up to Escapists in the fall
of 2016, the band was joined by guitarist/songwriter Dan Dervaitis.
A host of collaborations between Ciaran and Dan quickly emerged and, with a year of arrangement under their belts, tAS returns to the studio in January 2018.
